Zur Feier des 20. Jubiläums der Videospielreihe God of War haben Santa Monica Studio (Sony Interactive Entertainment) und das Label Laced Records ihre Kräfte gebündelt, um dieses beeindruckende 13-teilige Vinyl-Boxset zu schaffen. Es dokumentiert die musikalische Entwicklung der Reihe von dem ursprünglichen God of War aus dem Jahr 2005 bis hin zu God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla aus dem Jahr 2023.
Der doppelte äußere Umschlag öffnet sich und enthüllt sieben separate Hüllen, von denen jede ein bedrucktes Innencover mit der Schallplatte enthält. Alle Musik wurde speziell für das Vinyl-Hören remastert.
An dem Videospiel-Soundtrack arbeiteten ganze Pantheon von Komponisten – von denen, die die Musik für die griechische Saga prägten (Gerard K. Marino, Mike Reagan, Ron Fish, Cris Velasco, die Grammy-Gewinnerin Winifred Phillips, Winnie Waldron und Tyler Bates) bis hin zu Bear McCreary (Grammy-nominiert), der für die Musik der nordischen Ära der Reihe verantwortlich ist.
Das Boxset enthält auch den Soundtrack zu God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla, der erstmals auf Vinyl erhältlich ist. Bear McCreary und sein Team von Sparks & Shadows verbinden hier musikalische Themen aus der gesamten Reihe – sowohl der griechischen als auch der nordischen Ära – zu einem zusammenhängenden und grandiosen Finale.
Abgeschlossen wird das Set mit drei Tracks aus dem Projekt God of War Ragnarök: Lofi Beats to Journal von Alex Moukala und Lawrence Ravagnan – es handelt sich um lofi-instrumentale Hip-Hop-Remixe von McCrearys Musik, die einen ruhigeren Blick auf die zwanzigjährige Reise des Geistes von Sparta werfen und den Spielern Raum für Entspannung und Nostalgie bieten.
